Beavis and Butt-Head – Project Buffcoat 2025 Release Restoration Notes --------------------------- These are the general issues that were fixed from the streaming remasters. See below for episode-specific details on restoration, censorship removal, and updates from prior releases. ⦁ Replaced censored parts with the best available uncensored sources ⦁ Fixed poor deinterlace combing and single-field frames ⦁ Fixed DNR-related errors, frame by frame, whenever possible. ⦁ Major reduction in dot-crawl. ⦁ New to this update, the episodes with heaviest dot crawl (e.g., Season 7) are massively improved, thanks to the work of Dravincrow. ⦁ Dot crawl on music video B&B logo selectively removed ⦁ Auto contrast/color problems resulting from missed shot-transitions cause strobing in music videos or a flashing B&B logo. These have been fixed by using alternate video sources, sometimes overlaying the static, HQ B&B logo. ⦁ Added the commercial bumper gags, as broadcast for each episode. ⦁ Replaced the opening title sequence with the HQ one shown in some digitally-made episodes (e.g., Sporting Goods). Other episodes originally aired with fuzzy, higher-generation copies. ⦁ Color corrected title cards, which were desaturated by auto-contrast filters. ⦁ Subtitles and chapters. For episodes with multiple versions (e.g., season 1), chapters in revised versions will skip to new/changed scenes. Changelog --------------------------- Note: changes marked with * are updated from a prior Buffcoat release, but all files have at least minor improvements. S01E01 Door-to-Door ⦁ Version 1 sources: DVD (cartoon), VHS (music videos), VH1 digital (music video audio). Music video couch scenes remade frame-by-frame. End credits from Give Blood streaming version. ⦁ Version 2 sources: DVD (cartoon), PAL recording (music videos), VH1 digital (music video audio). End credits cropped from VH1 broadcast. Music video couch scenes remade frame-by-frame. ⦁ Version 3 sources: DVD (cartoon), reused 3 videos from Version 2 and Give Blood v2. This episode is lost. The Scorpions video only survives partially in one music video compilation tape (see Extras folder). It has been remade from the original documentary footage it’s based on, and frame-by-frame animation recreation. The video commentary was AI-extracted and layered over CD audio of the song. The song was extended slightly on both ends, to its likely full length. An extra line “Is this like, the weather channel?” was added, reused from Beastie Boys, as there is an old usenet post from 1993 that says it was in this Scorpions video. End credits made from “Balloon” credits, with the writers' names rotoscoped. Included the title card, which may have been used here. ⦁ Version 4 sources: DVD (cartoon), MTV Extra tape (music videos), VH1 digital (music video audio). This version with Milli Vanilli and Richard Marx has music videos partly from MTV Extra, with the network logo rotoscoped out. And partly remade from DVD sources, using the (large) logo from other parts of the videos. End credits made from “Balloon” credits, with rotoscoping to the writers’ names. S01E02 Give Blood Sources: Streaming, home VHS, official VHS (Too Dumb for TV) Reduced dot crawl present on some of the blood. Act 1 and the first 2 videos of Version 1 are missing from streaming. DVD and VHS sources were used, respectively. Couch scenes during the first two videos were remade frame-by-frame. ⦁ Version 2: The alternate music videos were taken from an MTV Extra tape, with audio from VH1 digital. The network logo was removed with rotoscoping for all four videos. Couch scenes during all videos were remade frame-by-frame. Megadeth from Too Dumb for TV VHS. End credits from VHS. S01E03 Peace, Love, and Understanding Main source: Derek's transfer of Konacha37 Liquid Television VHS (cartoon), VH1 digital and VHS (audio) The entire main cartoon was stabilized, as it always aired with extreme amounts of gate weave. Some sequences, like lines from Sterculius and the man on TV aren’t in the Liquid Television version, and were remade frame-by-frame. The phone number on the monster truck ad was rotoscoped back in (censored on Liquid TV). ⦁ Version 1: Music videos largely remade due to low quality and incomplete sources. Kept the original logo and music video credits (MTV Extra source). Remade couch shots frame-by-frame using the main cartoon and the headbanging sequence from DVD. End credits from VHS. ⦁ Version 2: Music videos from MTV Extra, with logo rotoscoped out. Partly remade from DVD when required, with B&B logo from VHS. Couch shots remade as above. End credits from Door-to-Door v4. ⦁ Version 3: Music videos and end credits from GR’s tape with Spanish subtitles. Rotoscoped out each subtitle using DVDs of the music videos. Couch shots remade as above. S01E04 Frog Baseball Main source: DVD with shot-by-shot color correction to the broadcast version (DVD is blown out/saturated). Music video audio from VHS. Remade title cards in Photoshop. ⦁ Version 1: Music videos largely remade as in “Peace” v1. David Lee Roth and GWAR videos come from Beware of the Butt. DLR needed a couch shot replaced with DVD of the music video, with the B&B logo carefully overlaid to match the rest of the video. GWAR needed one head-bang animation added. The video credits were rotoscoped into different (accurate) timing – however, the word “behind” should technically be lowercase. VHS end credits. ⦁ Version 2: As with “Peace” v2, videos are a combination of MTV Extra, with network logo rotoscoped out when possible, and DVD footage with the B&B logo overlaid from VHS. Judas Priest audio from Give Blood digital. End credits from Balloon, with “Peace Love and Understanding” text replaced with “Frog Baseball” (surviving VHS credits are poor/illegible). S01E05 Balloon Sources: DVD (cartoon), VHS (videos) ⦁ Version 1: Music videos from off-air VHS, with frame-by-frame remade couch shots (DVD). End credits: PAL broadcast. ⦁ Version 2: As above. Pat Benatar video from MTV Extra VHS, with network logo rotoscoped out, or from DVD with B&B logo taken from VHS, as needed. End credits taken from Frog v2. ⦁ Version 3: Michael Jackson and REM videos remade shot-by-shot from official videos. Couch shots made frame-by-frame from DVD. Audio from VHS, including newly found REM “Drive” commentary. End credits from same VHS as Peace v3.
