- Gregory Blaustein - late 20s quant who did a PhD in Math at MIT. Introverted and reserved - never felt romantic or sexual attraction in his life. On the cusp of breaking out of lower-division on the quant track, despite his rather recent tenure. Blaustein side of the family fled Germany in '38 - German for 'Blue Stone', passing down a lapis ring to Greg. Never mentioned family background to outsiders and is a staunch atheist, but his last name and subtle German-Yiddish intonations are clues that people can guess from. Joined Bloodstone shortly before the dotcom crash. After the dotcom crash, Greg had increasing self-doubts towards the toxic-trickle of fractional-reserves - something that the ivory-tower upper-division quants refuse to listen to in their endless chase of sophistication for its own sake, and something that the banking-track VPs dismiss as emotional tinfoil conspiracyland.
- Richard 'Dick' Hargrave - 52 yr old VP. Has the nickname 'The Silverback' due to graying hair, extremely strong build, and ferocious personality. Similar to Tom Buchanan. Currently has 20 combined analaysts + associates under his command. Dick, like Greg, is well aware that the trickle of fractional-reserves is toxic - but unlike Greg, Dick revels in this toxicity, which he exploited during the '79-'82 crisis by hastening the demise of S&Ls while spinning off the organs like an underground surgeon for his own profit - Dick jokes to himself about he's the one to give meaning to Bloodstone's name. From these aggressive deals, he was able to rise from associateship to VP. He thinks he will always be the alpha-predator on top with first access to new credit, and the last one to have his loans called in, although he certainly won't say this quiet part out loud - only those at the very top of Bloodstone have any awareness of what kind of long-knifing he did back in '79-'82. The idea that Dick might end up eventually getting long-knifed by the toxic trickle is something he is insecure about, going as far as to denigrate Greg's self-doubts about the toxic-trickle as 'gay hysterics'. Has a wife for 22 years - married her after his promotion to VP. Still not a SVP yet, much to his frustration, although his salary and bonuses have been juiced up.
- Victor Moreau and Marcus Hale - both are VPs whose ages and tenures are much younger than Dick's. Victor is of Parisian Metropole backgroud - he tried applying to Societe Generale but got rejected. Commands significantly fewer analysts + associates than Dick. They both think that Dick is an asshole, and they also are not exactly true believers in raw, primal intuition and bullheaded bulldozing - they utilize the quants' numbers more intelligently than Dick does when trying to sell, push, and close deals. But just like Dick, Victor and Marcus have a disdain for what they perceive as the 'superfluous rigor' of the quants, Marcus and especially Victor preferring 'esprit de finesse', and they appreciate him for leading the charge when their associateships stalled out during the late-90s and for his debaucherous outings - even if they are more reserved in their lechery than Dick.
- Kyle, Trent, and Bryce - junior analysts under Dick's command. Entered the firm after the dotcom crash. Were in the same frat at the same uni, but different cohorts. They think that Dick can be an overbearing taskmaster at times, but, being stereotypical fratboys, they consider Dick to be the coolest VP at the firm - they admire his macho aura and his debaucherous outings. Use the abbreviation 'KTB' when referring to them as a collective.
